Business Process Management (BPM) is the practice of aligning ways of working with changing goals as businesses evolve.
BPM software is the most effective tool for applying this practice. By using BPM software, organizations define the steps needed to carry out a piece of work, map these steps against existing processes, and capture improvement opportunities so the defined steps can be taken more efficiently and effectively. Through continuous measurement and monitoring, BPM software makes it possible to continuously improve ways of working.
According to the results of the BPTrends portal survey on 2018 BPM Trends*:
. This year, as in past years, the biggest motivation for organizations to apply BPM practices was saving money by reducing costs or increasing efficiency.
. 65% of participants said BPM practices helped improve efficiency, flexibility, and customer satisfaction in their organizations.
. Most respondents (52%) said they model or document company processes occasionally. Organizations in Europe showed a greater tendency to model and document workflows than their North American counterparts.
. 30% said they would like to add process mining, capability modeling, or some form of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) or Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities to their BPM software packages.
. 59% of the organizations surveyed said they were running one or more major change or transformation projects.
. 93% of participants said their organizations were involved in numerous process improvement projects.
These high rates show that BPM is no longer just a trend or something organizations "do from time to time"; it has become an active part of the work businesses carry out.
