It is worth reviewing once more why, at the most basic level, organizations need Digital Transformation:
. To increase customer satisfaction
. To increase efficiency
. To improve decision-making
. To increase competitiveness
Your organization wants to improve in all these areas, grow and become a leader in its industry. So you eagerly get started to kick off the transformation. With your Leadership Team and Consultants, you draw up a roadmap of what needs to be done.
I, however, am going to tell you what should not be done. Why? Because only 30% of digital transformation projects worldwide succeed.
Research shows that most organizations do not treat the ‘Transforming Corporate Culture’ part of the work as a priority. Yet the ultimate goal of Digital Transformation is to make the organization's new way of working part of its corporate culture. To do this, you first need to identify employees' habits and manage the change in those habits correctly.
Based on the lessons learned, the common mistakes can be listed as follows. Stay well away from them!
. Employees getting the feeling, ‘I've heard all this before and nothing changed…’ Senior Management should do what it says, stand behind it and not promise what it cannot deliver. In short, if Senior Management is not yet ready for Digital Transformation, you should not set out on the journey.
. Employees not understanding the new way of working they are told about, and not enough communication with them along the way to make the new work feel natural.
. Loading other ‘Priorities’ onto Employees who are already very busy.
. Managers making no effort toward the transformation. If their manager doesn't care, why should Employees be enthusiastic about it?
. The organization's Digital Transformation Leadership Team announcing to Employees what an important transformation journey has begun, and then not devoting enough time to the work.
. Not regularly sharing the progress made on the transformation journey with all Employees.
On your transformation journey, always make sure you are building a corporate culture that inspires and encourages employees. Because it is this culture that will carry your organization into the future.
