Business Process Management (BPM) is a method companies use to manage, monitor and improve their business activities. BPM software tools and consultants enable managers to analyze and change their operational systems based on data rather than on a hunch alone, helping make business activities faster and cheaper.
Successful BPM:
. Ensures business processes are understood,
. Manages and limits the impact of process risk,
. Has a backup plan in case an identified process risk materializes,
. Identifies the causes of a problem,
. Ensures information is available to support fast, accurate decision-making by company management,
For successful BPM:
. Always involve employees when reviewing business systems for effectiveness, because they know best what is going right and wrong in your processes: they live with them every day.
. No business process strategy can succeed without proper execution. Choose a step-by-step approach that starts by setting process management goals aligned with corporate goals. Companies should know what they expect to achieve before documenting a new process.
. Companies should also know and assess what they are currently doing before designing a new process.
. Once the design is complete, a simulation model should be built. Simulation models should help represent the relationships between process tasks and activities to help identify cost and risk factors. Once a new system has been simulated, organizational change plans should be introduced gradually and evaluated with key performance indicators (KPIs).
In conclusion, BPM:
. Makes the business simpler and helps deliver greater customer satisfaction. (Customers cannot see the actual management, but they should be able to see the benefits in the service they receive. Companies should look at their activities with a critical eye and continuously change, develop and improve their systems through monitoring and review.)
. Gives an organization a competitive advantage over its rivals by making its end-to-end processes more transparent.
. Improves decision-making, enables faster response to change and reduces business risks.
. Makes the organization work more efficiently, increasing business capacity and productivity.
